As of 7:30 a.m., police had been called on reports of a roommate who forced himself into another room of the house.
The stand off continues, as Oregon State Police SWAT teams have surrounded the house near N.W. 25th Street and N.W. Harrison Boulevard.
One resident of the house, Ryan Spidal, said that "Nate" - the basement resident - broke into his bedroom early this morning and said, "Don't call the cops."
Spidal and another roommate called the cops, according to Spidal.
Police are not releasing any details, as the situation is still unfolding, but false rumors of a hostage - which were circulating through the crowds gathered at the scene - were dismissed.
More than 18 emergency response vehicles were gather at the scene as of 11:20 a.m. OSP, Corvallis Police Department and the Corvallis Fire Department were on scene.
Other students, gathered at the scene, said they had received the OSU Emergency Alert text message and decided to come take a look.
According to OSU Spokesman Todd Simmons, the text message and messages reached 95 percent of all users - those who had signed up for the message. Simmons urged students, staff and those in the area to avoid 25th and Harrison if possible.
Students on scene also said they believed the man in his home to be "Creepy Van Man." Sororities have been circulating warnings about "Creepy Van Man" for safety reasons. It was rumored that "Creepy Van Man" had a van with a cage in the rear, as well as handcuffs and ducktape.
These rumors, and the identity of "Creepy Van Man" are unconfirmed. Please check back at www.dailybarometer.com for details later in the day.
