Haruguchi an All-American

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Saori Haruguchi of the Oregon State women's swim team completed the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.17 to earn her 10th All-America honor during the final day of competition at the NCAA Championships.

Kayla Rawlings also competed in the 200 butterfly, finishing the event in 1:58.29.

Anna Crandall competed in the 100 freestyle and finished with a time of 50.10.

Over three days of swimming, Haruguchi earned three All-America honors by finishing 12th in the 200 individual medley and ninth in the 100 butterfly.

Velasquez wins

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Junior Diego Velasquez shot an even par 70 in the final 18 holes of the 63rd annual Western Intercollegiate to hold on and win his second event of the 2008-09 season.

It was a birdie on Velasquez's final hole, the par-5 sixth that cemented the victory of the season for him; the first coming at the Giustina Memorial Challenge back in September. He finished three strokes ahead of Jack Newman of Michigan State and Derek Tolan of Colorado who both tied for second at 3-over par.

XC impresses

SAN FRANCISCO - Freshman Casey Masterson won her section of the 1,500 meters and sophomore Hayley Oveson won the two-mile run as the Beavers made an impressive showing at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday, a meet that was primarily to be used as extended training for Oregon State women's track.

Masterson ran the 1,500 meters in 4:35.28, the 10th fastest time in Oregon State history. Senior Holly Thomson also ran well, running the fourth fastest time of the day at 4:39.68.

Sophomore Jennifer Macias wrapped up the day for the Beavers by taking second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Macias came in with Oregon State's third fastest time in school history at 11:09.83.
