The Fairbanks Gallery was a full house last night in anticipation of the Plinkiewisch Honors Exhibition.

The gallery showcased a variety of artwork by the Plinkiewisch Scholarship recipients and included sculpture, photography, cartooning, mixed media and charcoal drawings. Offering food and music, the event featured works for all tastes.

"We hold a show every year to showcase the scholarship recipients' work," said scholarship recipient Marne Elmore. "It's a good opportunity to show the progress of students work."

Elmore presented an acrylic and latex paint on canvas piece at the exhibition.

Other recipients include Katie Holloway, Kim Myers, Greg Luckeroth, Anna Sarver, Michael Major, Matt Roberts and Ian Ferrier.

Senior Leslie Mulkins, who viewed the pieces, said she really liked the artwork.

"I think it's pretty awesome," Mulkins said. "I really liked the Gorillaz one [by Michael Major] because I like their music."

Mulkins also said she enjoyed the photography pieces because she is a photography major herself and enjoys the art form.

The scholarship was established in 1995 in memory of Plinkiewisch's mother, Amy Rosina Hansen. The award gives either the full amount or half the amount of the recipient's tuition expenses.

All scholarship recipients are chosen based on a demonstration of high achievement in studio art or art history, a nomination by a faculty member, a GPA of 3.5 or higher in all art courses and an accumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in all classes.

The students also need to demonstrate financial need. Improvement of the students' artwork is also taken into consideration.

Scholarship recipients are required to participate in the exhibition as an additional condition of the award.

The award is granted for one year and is reviewed the next to determine if the student will continue receiving aid. As of now, students are not required to reapply for the scholarship.

Scholarships for next year can be found at the art department's main office.
