A mere three days later, the team was on a plane to Tucson, Ariz., where it battled a large field of NCAA golfers at the Mountain View Collegiate Tournament. When the smoke cleared after three days of action, the Beavers were scored in a tie for 11th, again with the help of strong scores from Archer and Freeman, who shot five and six over par, respectively.
The busy schedule has left very little time for team meetings or practices, as the closing days of March have been uncommonly tight.
"We haven't really had any practice time at all," Freeman said. "We just got back from Mountain View two days ago."
The Beavers departed for Mississippi yesterday, so practice has essentially been limited to the short amount of allotted time before the event. Nevertheless, the team confidence level remains high, just as it has all season.
Archer and Freeman expect to see better, lower scores from everyone in the lineup this weekend, as all players have been improving their games.
"Whitney French had a good day on Sunday. I think she will pull through," Archer said. "[Freshman] Elyse Okada is getting better and improving her game, and Martha [Burkard] is a great player, so all of us have the talent."
Friday's Lady Rebel Intercollegiate will be a great opportunity for the team to continue to improve, as no team will have any home-course advantage due to the last-minute switch to the country club in Oxford. This seemingly daunting change has had a positive effect on the Beavers' outlook.
"I agree with Lauren [Archer]," Freeman said. "We are all shooting low numbers, so if we all play like we can, then we will do great."
