Women finish third
OXFORD, Miss. - Cara Freeman finished in fifth place, shooting a 1-over-par 73 in the final round of the Lady Rebel Intercollegiate on Sunday to lead the Oregon State women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Country Club of Oxford a par-72, 6,132-yard course.
Freeman's fifth-place finish came after rounds of 76, 73 and 73 en route to a tournament total 222, just five shots back from tournament champion Dori Carter of Mississippi.

Novice 8+ strong
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Three Oregon State boats competed in the Grand Finals of the San Diego Crew Classic held Sunday in Mission Bay, Calif.
The Novice 8+ rowed a strong race to finish second in the Laurel V. Korholz Perpetual Trophy final. Putting together a complete race, the Beavers finished only 1.66 seconds behind Washington after a battle to the finish line.
The 18th-ranked Varsity 8+ crew competed in the Jessop-Whittier Cup final. The boat started with a lead over No. 12 Washington State that turned into a battle for fifth place, with the Beavers pulling ahead at the end.

Two grapplers honored
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Two Oregon State wrestlers were named to the Pac-10 All-Academic teams, led by senior Kyle Bressler's first-team honors, announced Monday by Commissioner Tom Hansen.
Bressler tallied his third first-team accolade, earning the first two in 2006 and 2008. A construction engineering management major, Bressler also earned 2008 NWCA All-Academic Team honors.
Earning his first academic nod, redshirt freshman Kelly Kubec earned honorable mention status. Kubec capped his first year of competition with an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships at 133 pounds.

Varsity 8+ third
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The 15th-ranked Oregon State men's Varsity 8+ crew finished third in the Petite Finals of the Copley Cup and two other Beaver boats raced in their respective Grand Finals at the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday.
The V8+ crew got the day started for the Beavers in the Petite Finals. Boats from No. 10 Yale, No. 13 Syracuse and Oregon State led the pack off the start, with Yale taking an early lead. All six of the crews in the race were practically even through the first 500 meters before Yale began to establish a lead. Syracuse made a push for first while Oregon State was left to fend off Michigan for third place. The Wolverines used a strong second 500 meters to take third place away from OSU, but the Beavers recovered in the second half of the race to take third by a narrow margin of 1.45 seconds.
