The Oregon State women's basketball team finished its season with a 20-12 overall record, 9-9 in the Pac-10 and 11-3 non-conference, as head coach LaVonda Wagner and her team put another successful season under their belts.

Although they fell 61-56 in the third round of the WNIT against New Mexico on March 27, the Beavers have many positive memories and a much-improved season to look back on. The Beavers won 13 of their 16 home games as well as being undefeated in non-conference play.

There's been nothing but improvements over the last season compared to the 2007-08 season. Last year, the Beavers went 12-19, 4-14 in Pac-10, and tied with the University of Arizona for eighth place in the conference. In the 2008-09 season, the Beavers finished fourth in a three-way tie with UCLA and USC.

"First of all, I would like to congratulate my team on a 20-win season - that hasn't happened since the 1994-95 season," Wagner said after a WNIT win over Portland State. "I thought it was an excellent basketball game. Both teams competed hard for 40 minutes. [PSU] did a nice job of rebounding the basketball, but we did force them into 25 turnovers."

Senior guard Brittney Davis led the team through the end of the season, averaging 14.5 points per game as well as scoring a team-high 19 points in their 61-56 loss to New Mexico in the WNIT tournament March 27. Davis averaged 79.8 percent from the stripe and had 92 rebounds on the season.

This past week, for the third time this season, sophomore guard Talisa Rhea was honored by the Pac-10 conference. She has been named the Pac-10's All-Academic First Team. Earlier in the season, Rhea was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Region Second Team during the 2008-09 regular season. The third award was for Pac-10 Player of the Week after the game against Sacramento State.
