Warm weather? Get outside, enjoy it while it lasts

It's finally that time again. Spring is here, and the long winter is slowly disappearing - it's time for sunny weather and lemonade, outdoor activities, late nights partying with friends and my personal favorite, tanning sorority girls.

The sunny weather is perking up spirits and coaxing all of us pale-skinned, winter-weather-haters out of hiding for another brilliant Oregon spring, complete with seasonal allergies so some can enjoy sinus headaches and restricted breathing with that lemonade.

This week has been nice enough for all the outdoor drinking activities to once again surface around our beloved campus. Sidewalks are littered with red cups, empty glass bottles and abandoned beer pong tables in front lawns, proudly displaying the enjoyment that OSU students take in getting outside for some of their favorite activities.

Spring term is the best as far as weather goes, but it's also plagued with hidden difficulties that students around here quite often forget about - like the fact that there are still nine more weeks of the term.

I for one have a history of slacking heavily during this term, since sitting in class is difficult when the sun is shining and people are enjoying themselves everywhere, when all I can think about is how long I can watch the world through the window before the professor figures out I took this class only for the view.

Spring term can be a real danger for good students who just can't refuse the appeal of warm weather fun. Playing football instead of studying, or napping in the sun instead of catching those Z's in class like we all know we should, can have some severely adverse effects on our GPAs.

Speaking from my own experiences, I have a few pieces of advice for the younger students who might lose their grip in the next few weeks.

First and foremost, go to class - remember that little room where someone stands in front of a bunch of students and talks at them for an hour or two? I know that playing soccer in the park is more fun, but try to get to class, as there is a rumor circulating that attendance may be important.
