April Grolle, Lauren Bryeans and Lauren Chief Elk spoke Monday night at "No Woman Left Behind" in the Memorial Union Ballroom. The three spoke about saving a young woman who was being raped at a college party.

To kick off Sexual Assault Awareness Week, a stirring No Woman Left Behind campaign event was held last night in the MU Ballroom. The event featured the true story of three women who witnessed and saved a women who was being gang raped.

Lauren Chief Elk and her two friends Lauren Bryeans and April Grolle were members of the De Anza College women's soccer team near San Francisco. The three were invited to a party hosted by the baseball team in 2006.

At the party, the girls recalled seeing a lot of alcohol and open drug use. The girls described a corner where shots were given out to only women.

The three women were very surprised to notice that a majority of the individuals at the party were female.

On their way to leave the party, feeling very uncomfortable, the three women heard that a girl went into a room with eight men. They instantly knew something was not right.

The three approached the suspected room - a dining room with French doors - and were told to leave. Unconvinced, they continued to persist on entering the room, which had black curtains covering the glass on the doors.

The curtains were snagged on part of the door and the girls were able to peer in. What they saw horrified them.

Inside the room a man, surrounded by many other men, was raping a young woman while another man attempted to force her to give him oral sex.

The three women broke into the room at that time and helped the girl. When they reached her she was unconscious and had been vomiting. Elks and her friends quickly dressed the girl and attempted to carry her to their car. The whole time no one at the party helped them with the girl.

The three recall the girl being very bruised and they had to constantly check to make sure she was still breathing as they took her to the hospital. The girl turned out to be only 17.
