The Oregon State women's softball team swept the last two games of the four-game series against the Portland State Vikings in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The final scores 2-1 in the first game and 2-0 in the second.

This puts the Beavers' record at 22-19 on the season.

"I thought the pitchers did a great job today," head coach Kirk Walker said. "They only gave up one run over 14 innings, and that was unearned. Both pitchers did a good job holding down a solid Portland State lineup."

Freshman pitcher Paige Hall stepped in as the starting pitcher in game one and threw for six innings, which gave her four strikeouts and the single run by Portland State.

Hall was credited with win number one and junior pitcher Kelly Dyer came through for win number two. This improves Hall's record to 12-7 and Dyer's to 10-12. Hall threw four strikeouts and suffered six hits during her six innings. Dyer received credit for the complete game shutout, which is her fourth of the season. She struck out six batters.

"We had fun today," Dyer said. "Our goal this year was to sweep Portland State, so that feels good getting that goal accomplished. I think that we've realized that we have to start winning these games, so these games have been really important for us and for our momentum going into Pac-10 games."

With bases loaded in the bottom of the third, sophomore infielder Erin Guzy stepped up to the plate and hit a single, earning an RBI as junior outfielder Dani Chisholm scored the run.

"It felt good winning today," Guzy said. "I think our overall energy may not have been all the way there, but we played well and we did what we needed to do to win. These games are different than our Pac-10 games of course, but we try our hardest to come out with the same mentality every game."

And it seems the Beavers did just that.

Sophomore catcher Audrey Roderfeld tallied her 30th RBI this season, scoring senior catcher Stefanie Ewing in the third inning of game one with a single.

"I feel like our pitchers did excellent throughout both games and our hitters were good too," Young said. "We did leave a lot of runners on base, but they ended up scoring the runs that we needed in order to win the game."

There were two errors in game one made by senior infielders Paige Lowe (which came in the sixth) and DeAnn Young (which came in the fourth), but those mistakes did not keep Oregon State from collecting the victories.
