Faculty conduct:
Open mind no excuse for foul language
I am writing with concern about the teacher and administration staff attitudes towards students on campus. I witnessed an altercation with a student in which a faculty member of this campus called the student an asshole.
These are the people who are teaching us, who are molding our perceptions of the world around us. However, we are bombarded with harsh words and derogatory remarks. The funny thing is that this is all in the name of tolerance and being open minded. Fortunately, there are people who stand up for their beliefs, morals and ethics, even with opposition from those who are so "open-minded."

Gun control:
W. Oregon issues could echo at OSU
I am writing in frustration of the recent controversy surrounding the student at Western Oregon. The student was wrongfully arrested for carrying a firearm on campus even with the proper permits. The sheriff's office found the student broke no laws and didn't charge him, but the university punished him anyway. The Marine tried to apply here at Oregon State University after the incident, but was rejected.
I find myself wondering how a university can take such action without much resistance from within. Our 2nd Amendment rights are exactly that. They are rights. We are entitled to bear arms. The student didn't do anything illegal and it concerns me because, if the college takes this action, then what else can or will they do? How much further will the limits be pushed next time?
The students at Oregon State should be hesitant about how these situations are handled - if the university can break the law and punish an innocent Marine, they can punish you too.
