Mann: vote Ferris-Madrigal for ASOSU pres./vice pres.
Ryan Mann
Issue date: 4/22/09 Section: Forum
Today and tomorrow you will be voting for your Student Body President and Vice-President for 2009-2010. As your current ASOSU President, I am particularly interested in the outcome of this election for many reasons. With that said, I will be casting my vote for Jill Ferris and Chon Madrigal.
It takes not a specific set of skills and there is not a particular experience that would best prepare someone for this office. Instead, I feel that nobody could be completely "ready" for this job from day one.
Knowing this, I think that the trait we should look for in our leaders is a willingness to learn; our ASOSU President and Vice-President must be humble, eager, passionate and savvy. I am certain that they will approach the job ready to listen to the needs of students, ready to support their staff, and ready lead by example. Jill and Chon have a vision for this organization and I have a hunch that this is just the beginning of what promises to be a life full of service, dedication to community and passion for leadership.
I can tell you firsthand that this job is not all glory. While I do enjoy representing the student voice on numerous university committees, and in Salem and Washington, D.C. and wherever else I am needed, the real work comes in building a team of passionate students to tackle the variety of issues that we face today.
Jill and Chon will be excellent ambassadors for the organization and for the student body, but they will also be incredible managers of a staff of 70 employees and a budget of nearly $1 million. They surround themselves with positive people and will create a welcoming student government that works efficiently for all students.
Jill has a plethora of experience advocating for students and increasing your representation on campus, in Salem, and in Washington D.C. Jill also knows how to achieve success "in the field." She helped lead ASOSU's effort to register, educate and turn out to vote 3,500 students.
Chon knows all too well the needs of OSU students. This year, Chon has administered three of ASOSU's subsidies, including MealBux. Acutely addressing hunger and other pressing issues, Chon has prepared himself well to be an effective advocate for all students as OSU.
Most importantly, Jill Ferris and Chon Madrigal are hard-working students like you and me. Jill is an Honors College student and has a chance to be just the 10th woman ever elected ASOSU President, in the 110 year history of the organization! Chon previously served as President of his Fraternity and also worked at the English Language Institute. They are a truly diverse, passionate, and supremely capable pair that I am proud to provide my full support. Please vote today on Blackboard for Jill Ferris and Chon Madrigal for ASOSU President and Vice-President.

Huh! was there any particular reason why or just some vague notion of skill sets, and how hard-working they are? This is exactly what I've gotten from Ferris and Madrigal. (Continued…)

Hahaha Sure, Ryan has light shining from every orifice eh? Ok give me a long list of Ryan Mann's accomplishments at ASOSU? Ok, how about a short list? I wager that if you actually list them, his top 10 greatest hits don't amount to much. (Continued…)

So that Tucker doesn't have to respond to this I'll do my best to sum up your ten accomplishments you wanted, keeping in mind this is only a small slice. (Continued…)

And your kind of obscene straw-men and patronizing isn't funny, legitimate, nor sensical, Ben.
Thank you for providing that list, Matt. A pretty decent list considering the responsibilities of the ASOSU President. (Continued…)

Dear Matt
Y'know out of your top 12, number 11 is most impressive.
As to looking up to Ryan Mann, if I wanted to slum for a while I'd start doing Heroin. (Continued…)

Oh by the way I have a life so this little whatever the kids call it these days... flame war, comment war, whatever, I won't care. Win or lose neither ticket matters at all. (Continued…)

Nice little dig at the end about having a life; apparently I don't because I, just like you, am posting on an online newspaper forum, while you do despite the fact you started this "little flame war"?
Listen (or rather, read?): I'm not into flame wars, you and I both know they are childish and go nowhere. (Continued…)
