Student Incidental Fee Committee, Memorial Union and Associated Students of Oregon State candidates spoke in the brick mall next to the OSU Bookstore Tuesday afternoon.

The final presidential and vice presidential candidates for this week's upcoming ASOSU general election met up again, face-to-face, to debate outside at the MU brick mall. Also in attendance were the unopposed candidates running for ASOSU speaker of the house and the MU presidential and vice presidential seats.

Kimberly Nickerson, the current ASOSU vice president and chair of the elections committee, moderated the debate.

The debate began with each candidate being asked to give his or her opening statements and touch on his or her platform.

ASOSU speaker of the house candidate Paul Aljets said that some of his main concerns included the balance of student government, serving students' interests and the new direction in which the House of Representatives will be headed.

Next to speak were ASOSU presidential and vice presidential candidates Chris Van Drimmelen and Kevin Schock, the declared winners of the primary election.

"It is our belief that ASOSU has a lot of work to do in order to reach the extent of its potential, and at this point, it is going to take someone from outside the current organization to bring about those changes," Schock said.

"I am here to say that ASOSU experience does not necessarily equate effectiveness. Better indicators for success are passion and persistence, two things anyone who has been in the Quad these past two weeks can't deny we have."

Jill Ferris and Chon Madrigal, the other component to the ASOSU presidential and vice presidential election ticket, stated that they are running a campaign based on the four qualities of trust, responsibility, conviction and experience.

"Chon and I are 100 percent dedicated to working on student issues," Ferris said. "Together, we are a diverse ticket, working locally and at a state-wide level."

The pair running for MU president and vice president, Jorge Michel and Caitlin Martin, emphasized that they possess qualities of effective time management and strong leadership, which they believe will help them to best serve students.
