The Oregon State women's track team will be competing in the Oregon Relays at Hayward Field in Eugene this weekend.

The Relays is one of the bigger meets during the season, with the exception of the Pac-10 Championships and the NCAA Regional Meet. The Beavers will be sending 17 runners, two unattached, to participate in four different events.

Competing this weekend will be a slew of Beavers, including freshman Casey Masterson, senior Holly Thomson and sophomore Hayley Oveson. Oregon State will compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, the 800 meter, 1,500 meter and 5,000 meter. The races begin at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Attending the meet will be 60 other collegiate and club track teams from across the country, including the top two Pac-10 cross country teams of 2008: University of Washington and University of Oregon. Also among the teams will be Oklahoma and Auburn University. For the women, there will be 2,000 competitors taking part in this weekend's event, making it one of the best and biggest meets in the country.

"Oregon is one of the top programs in the country, and University of Washington is bringing their group," head coach Kelly Sullivan said. "You really don't need anybody else to be there. This will be a good measuring stick [for us]"

Following last week's showing at the Lewis and Clark Invitational in Portland where Oregon State ran off events, the team is looking forward to getting back to running in each of its respective events. In last week's meet, Masterson snagged yet another Oregon State record with the fifth-fastest 800 meter in school history with a time of 2:11:99.

Along with Masterson, sophomore Jennifer Macias ran a 4:44 in the 1,500 meter to secure a fourth place finish, and Thomson ran a 2:15 in the 800 meter, finishing fourth behind Masterson. If this is any indicator, this weekend's events should be nothing less than exciting.
