Yesterday at approximately 10:45 a.m., Nathan Michael Lenahan, the man responsible for the March 31 Greek Row stand-off, was scheduled for an appearance at the downtown Corvallis Benton County Courthouse.
However, Lenahan's court-ordered mental evaluation still has yet to be performed, and he was not present. Corvallis District Attorney Chris Stringer requested that the state have another week to complete the mental assessment, which is ultimately looking to see if Lenahan is able to aid and assist himself in his own trial.
"This is not uncommon. The mental evaluation process can take awhile because the Oregon State hospital is understaffed and is chronically short of money. It can sometimes take up to 60 days for a full evaluation to be done," Stringer said.
Stringer clarified that Lenahan is being held in a locked-up, secure facility. Whether that facility be the state hospital in Salem or the Benton County Correctional Facility is subject to change daily depending on doctor's appointments and other circumstances. It is only if Lenahan's location were to change and he were to be released into the community that the public would know.
Another court appearance will be scheduled for Lenahan sometime next week. The specific date and time is yet to be determined.
