May brings sun, fun, temptation to skip class

May has literally "got it going on," and there is plenty of sunshine and special events for all of us to look forward to. For many, a night on the town with their amigos/amigas to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a few cervezas or margaritas provides an excellent source of entertainment. In fact, I'm pretty sure every bar in Corvallis has something special planned for this important Mexican holiday.
You can bet there will be dancing featured at Platinum, bands and DJs performing at Cloud 9 and the Downward Dog, plus your typical sausage fest at Tailgaters. If drinking Coronas isn't your speed, there will likely be some sort of festive activities taking place on campus as well.
In addition to Cinco de Mayo, May also features Mother's Day and Memorial Day, giving us a chance to celebrate and remember those that have done so much for us.
May usually gives us the gift of the warm, inviting sunshine that we've been longing to feel for months. The sun not only raises the temperature but our spirits as well. I will rejoice in the opportunity of getting to wear shorts every day. I will also find the sight of young ladies on campus who wear even shorter shorts to be quite easy on the eyes.
Outdoor activities will return on a daily basis. People everywhere will go outside again to play frisbee golf and soccer as well as go hiking and participate in many other sports that they haven't been able to participate in for a while. I'm hoping to land on a softball team somewhere, and if that doesn't work out, it will be back to Dixon for me. Luckily, I love to play basketball just as much as the idea of playing softball.
We all can take advantage of making the most of the extra hours of sunlight we have each evening by staying out a little longer and opting to walk more places.
The scent of barbecues will re-emerge and people will be seen chilling with friends on front porches and in their yards again. Some students might choose to refrain from using the fake 'n bake bed and give sunbathing outside a try again in an attempt to get a tan the old fashioned way.
