While open drunkenness and nudity are perceived to be common among college students, the student board at UO recently decided that the UO Ultimate Frisbee Club's season would come to an end after team members appeared nude and intoxicated at a match at OSU on April 11.

The UO men's A and B teams were scheduled to play against each other earlier last month at OSU for the Oregon/Northern California College Open Sectionals Tournament. However, they showed up nude and intoxicated. The five-member UO student board thought these to be serious conduct violations after an OSU trainer filed a complaint with the Oregon State Public Safety Department.

The team was originally ranked third in the country and considerably favored to win its second national title since its creation in 1978.

According to the student board, the team was already on probation after several players were discovered at a large party last November, which consisted of more than 200 Ultimate Frisbee athletes from all around the Northwest region.

University of Oregon team co-captain Dusty Becker spoke to the board on his team's behalf, claiming that he did not believe "speeding, drinking or nudity to be malicious," but were just the "typical hippie" things to do.

Chris Hancock, a member of the OSU Ultimate Frisbee team, was not present at the actual game, but was shocked to hear the news.

"I was honestly surprised to hear that it had happened, but I also was not expecting the repercussions that the University of Oregon faced," he said.

Hancock said that there was a lack of Ultimate Players Association event management at the game and claimed that if the game had been better staffed, the UO team would not have had the same opportunity to play in the nude. There were, however, several UO adult chaperones present at the game.

Also, due to the way the UPA bracketing system works, the number of bids available to be offered to a team to play at nationals is determined by the strength of the teams in each region. This year, the Northwest region, which both OSU and UO play in, will be offered only two bids, which is based on of last year's teams' finishes.
