This season the Oregon State women's lacrosse team came out strong and kept up its excellent play all season long. Storming into the regional play, the girls boasted a record of 8-1-1, good enough for third in their league. After a grueling weekend in Seattle, the squad dropped two games at regionals, ending the playoff run.
"This is our fourth straight year of making it to regionals," said team captain Heather Wendt. "Each year we get a little better."
Proceeding the playoff weekend, Oregon State came out ranked fourth in the league.
While the team's journey stopped at the regional, the season gave life to may impressive accolades. Three girls earned Divisional All-Star Recognition: Sarah Normandin, Keri Robinson and Jessie Wright. Not an easy feat, this trio led their team through the season by scoring, cradling and running their team to a winning record.
In addition to the stellar play of individuals, the team ran through the season winning games left and right. Nearing the end of its league play, the OSU team had won or tied eight straight games, including a big win over first-place University of Washington. The score of 12-8 was a devastating number to the Huskies.
The best stretch of the season came during a weekend in mid-April when the girls traveled to Idaho to play multiple games. The weekend pitted Oregon State against some of the best competition the West Coast had to offer. The test was made even tougher due to the fact that OSU brought only one sub. With five games scheduled, the odds of making it through the weekend were slim. By the end of the weekend, though, the team had won four games and tied another with impressive play from all contingents.
"We had a magic weekend in Idaho," said sophomore Stephanie Tornincasa.
It's one thing to survive a barrage of grueling games like this; it's another monster to leave your home state, play all-star lacrosse and go home undefeated. The women's lacrosse team had a special season.
