Gaviglio strong

PORTLAND - Sam Gaviglio struck out seven and scattered three hits and a run over five innings to pace the 25th-ranked Oregon State baseball team to a 5-1 victory over Portland at Joe Etzel Field Tuesday afternoon.

Adalberto Santos and Ryan Ortiz both drove in two runs for Oregon State, which improved to 17-5 on the year in non-conference games. Oregon State has now won nine straight non-conference games.

Gaviglio started for the third time this season and picked up his seventh win, which leads the team.

ST. LOUIS - Former Oregon State infielder Brian Barden has been named the National League's Rookie of the Month for April. It was announced recently by the St. Louis Cardinals.

Safeco game on TV

The Oregon State baseball team will open its three-game series with Washington at Safeco Field in a 6:30 p.m. start Friday night.

The game will air live on Comcast SportsNet in Oregon and Washington.

Volleyball hosts tourney

OSU is pleased to announce that it will host the Third Annual Willamette Volleyball Tournament from May 8 to 10.

The event will be capped by an exhibition match between Oregon State and Western Oregon on Saturday, May 9 at 8 p.m. in Gill Coliseum.
