It turned out to be a killer Thursday afternoon for the Oregon State softball team as it defeated Arizona State in its first Pac-10 win since April 4, thanks to senior infielder Paige Lowe's game-winning home run.

The Beavers were down 3-4 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Paige Lowe's 13th career home run over left field gave the Beavers a 5-4 victory over the Sun Devils. Lowe also set a record with four RBI in the game.

"I knew she was going to bring me a change up. I just had a feeling she was going to," Paige Lowe said. "It's awesome. I pictured hitting a home run before I got up to bat, so I'm really glad it came through."

The Beavers (25-28, 4-15 Pac-10) took an early 2-0 lead after senior catcher Stefanie Ewing slammed her sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the second inning. Paige Lowe also hit an RBI single to right-center and scored her sister, sophomore outfielder McKenna Lowe, in the third inning.

"Paige told me [the pitcher] was throwing a real good change up and I just saw it and I had the adrenaline going," Ewing said. "I'm from Scottsdale right outside Tempe, so I always want to beat this team. It felt great."

Paige Lowe said that they are always neck and neck with the Sun Devils, and she is surprised that they don't win more often. She added that it just makes it more exciting when they do win.

Arizona State (38-16, 8-11 Pac-10) took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning with Krista Donnenwrith's three-run hit. She also scored a run earlier in the inning. Sun Devils' pitcher, Hillary Bach, was charged with the loss, putting her record at 23-9.

"Yeah, Arizona State had a good inning, but big deal. I knew we were going to come back," Ewing said.
