Not to toot our own horns, but at this annual contest held in the MU Ballroom, your very own campus newspaper won 20 awards - nine first place and 11 second place, as well as one honorable mention.
Our first place wins were in the categories of Best Section (News), Best Headline Writing (Lauren Dillard), Best News Story (Makenna Bishop), Best Series (Shyna Gill), Best Columnist (Rose Hansen), Best Sports Photo (Curtis Barnard), Best Feature Photo (Jeff Wick), and Best Design and Best Cartooning (Alexandria Condon).
Second place wins included General Excellence, Best Section (Sports), Best Feature Story (Candice Ruud), Best Editorial, Best Columnist (Sanjai Tripathi), Best Spot News Photo (Annie Miles), Best Sports Photo (Jeff Wick), Best Photography (Cory Reed), Best Graphic (Alexandria Condon), Best House Ad and Best Web Site.
We were up against the only other two daily college publications in Oregon: The Daily Vanguard from PSU and the Oregon Daily Emerald from UO.
Each school submitted multiple entries in all of the categories it entered.
We thought that you, our audience, our beloved readers, the people who we think about constantly and aim to please above all, might take pleasure in hearing this about your university's independent newspaper.
We know we make mistakes, but we're trying, and we're always improving. As editors, we are in the newsroom between 30 and 50 hours a week working so that we might present you with something you can find to be credible, entertaining and informative. We strive to be a publication that you can take pride in being a part of.
To OSU's athletic teams, award-winning professors and researchers, student government, and extraordinary students who surprise and impress us daily - we wouldn't be able to make news without you.
These awards are as much a reflection of your dedication to your campus as they are a reflection of our dedication to you.
