For the past six matchups, the Gonzaga Bulldogs have owned the Oregon State baseball team, winning six straight games between the two squads.

Today, the Beavers (29-14) look to change this statistic in their favor as the two teams meet for a two-game series at Goss Stadium.

Oregon State dropped out of the Baseball America Top 25 after losing a weekend series to the University of Washington Huskies. The Beavers started strong at Safeco Field on Friday, pulling out a 6-4 victory. In the next two games of the series, the Beavers were unable to handle the Huskies, who took advantage of their hitter-friendly ballpark for wins of 15-6 and 4-3.

It is unknown who will start for OSU today, but the Beavers will look for wins while protecting their bullpen for a three-game stand with Washington State at the end of this week.

On the offensive side of things, Oregon State enters today's game led by junior catcher Ryan Ortiz. At the dish, Ortiz is hitting .372 with a team-high 17 doubles.

Junior designated hitter Adalberto Santos posts a .326 average and has torched non-conference opponents for a .356 non-conference average. Behind Santos is sophomore first baseman Jared Norris, who is hitting .316 and is second on the team with three home runs.

Sophomore third baseman Stefen Romero leads OSU with three home runs and 42 RBI. Romero is fourth on the team in hitting with a .303 average.

In the opposite dugout will be the Gonzaga Bulldogs (30-14), who are tied for first place with Loyola Marymount in West Coast Conference play. After sweeping the Santa Clara Broncos in late April, the Bulldogs took two of three games from the Saint Mary's Gaels, who handed starting pitcher Steven Ames his first loss of the season.

Freshman leftie Ryan Carpenter is slated to start tonight for the Bulldogs. The Peoria, Ariz. native recorded his last decision in a victory against Portland on April 17. Carpenter has started nine games for Gonzaga and has a 5-3 record to show for it, and he ranks No. 4 out of the Gonzaga starters in ERA with a 4.98.
