Party in the brick mall!
Editorial Board
Issue date: 5/14/09 Section: Forum
Okay. That headline was just to get your attention. But, really.
We are planning a super rad party in the brick mall. We promise candy, at least.
In an attempt to raise awareness about Student Media opportunities and activities on campus, we're coming to the quad. Well, not the quad.
We were relegated to the brick mall because of the lube olympics, but that is oh-so-very acceptable given our love of slippery wrestling.
Student Media is one of the only places on campus where your creativity and love of (insert noun here) can be showcased.
Our TV station airs the creative genius of students from all disciplines. Our radio station features the artistic stylings of very creative DJs. Prism is a home for arts and literature. The yearbook and the Barometer showcase the talents of the writers, reporters, photographers and graphic artists of our generation.
In short, we do a lot of different stuff every day of the week.
In Student Media, you can earn pay and credit at the same time.
And even though we just mentioned creativity, you don't have to be creative at all. We need camera operators, delivery drivers, ad sales representatives, people to judge music before it goes on air, news writers, photographers and cartoonists.
You know what?
You don't have to work for us at all. We create media so that you can enjoy it in all of its forms.
The TV station is streaming shows online. The radio station is archiving in-house content and also streaming online. The Barometer is constantly updating content online.
The Barometer produces a print product five days a week (our parents were angry when they figured out that one; we spend a lot of hours here).
Tune in to KBVR Channel 26 or 88.7 KBVR-FM - which are ALWAYS on.
Click on http://www.dailybarometer.com, http://oregonstate.edu/prismmagazine/, http://oregonstate.edu/groups/yearbook/ to learn more about our products.
Or better yet, visit us in the brick mall where we will be out (hopefully, in force) to tell you all about our work.
It's an exciting time for media and for the OSU Department of Student Media. Our director is retiring, but we are generating momentum of our own.
We are identifying training weaknesses and moving toward addressing them. We are looking at our content and hoping to develop multimedia packages for the stories we tell.
Drop by, tell us what you are up to or ask us about Student Media.
While you are watching the lube olympics, go ahead and walk on over. We'll appreciate a high-five while we're stuck in the brick mall.
