Amazing weather was just the beginning of all the possible things Oregon State could have going in their favor.

Early Saturday afternoon, the infield at historic Hayward field in Eugene was buzzing with excitement, as the Pac-10 Conference Track and Field Championships were about to get underway.

Starting the day out for Oregon State was red-shirt freshman Casey Masterson and sophomore Abby Chesimet, who raced in the preliminary races of the 1,500-meter. Masterson, not surprisingly, made an exciting showing for Oregon State, placing fifth over all, and breaking the former school record for the 1,500-meter with a time of 4 minutes, 25.81 seconds, Masterson also qualified for the finals which took place on Sunday.

Not far behind Masterson was Chesimet, who finished seventh with a time of 4:38.38, and senior Holly Thomson who finished eighth with a time of 4:43.83.

With Saturday rolling along in a competitive manner, the Beavers track program watched as sophomore Hannah Soza-Hodgkinson finished 16th in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 38:15.80. Right behind Soza-Hodgkinson was senior Rebecca Mishler who ran her last collegiate race with a time of 38:57.86, good enough for a 17th-place finish.

With competition including Katie Follett of Washington and Stanford's Alicia Follmar, Sunday's 1,500-meter finals continued to create suspense. After qualifying for the finals in the 1,500-meter on Saturday, Masterson scratched from Sundays race due to heat exhaustion, after being advised by the on-call training team.

At the sound of the gun, the final qualifiers in the 1,500 began their trek, each one of them settling into an easy pace for the first lap. In the last 200 meters of the race, Follett pulled away, winning the Pac-10 Championship in the 1,500-meter by 4/10 of a second. Snagging second and third place were Follmar, and Oregon's Alex Kosinski, respectively.

Sunday afternoon brought plenty of surprises on both sides of the women's and men's finals. In the men's 1,500 Oregon's defending Pac-10 champion, Galen Rupp, led for the majority of the third and fourth laps, only to be taken by teammate Matthew Centrowitz in the last 100 meters. Centrowitz won the men's 1,500 Pac-10 Championship, with Rupp coming in second for Oregon, and fellow Duck Andrew Wheating taking the third place finish.
