In the spirit of saying "happy birthday" to TV Guide, who recently turned 56 years old, here are some cheers and jeers for sports nation.
Cheers to the Orlando Magic for finally putting the Boston Celtics out of their tired misery by taking Game Seven in Boston over the weekend.
Jeers to those who think the Cavaliers will sweep the Magic out of the Eastern Conference Finals. Remember that the Magic have won three of their last four visits to Cleveland.
Cheers to Cleveland finally having a professional sports team that can actually win the big one.
Jeers to Clevelanders who call their hometown "The Home of Rock and Roll" when they all really know it should be called "The City By The Burning Lake."
Cheers to two Boston teams losing Game Seven's at home in less than a week.
Jeers to Boston sports fans who think the sports world revolves around the Celtics, Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox.
Cheers to Yankee outfielder Brett Gardner who, after being given a yellow bracelet by an ailing girl during a hospital visit because she thought he would hit a home run if he kept it, went out and hit the first inside-the-park home run at the New Yankee Stadium to help the Yankees comeback and beat the Twins, 5-4.
Jeers to New York Yankees play-by-play man for saying there is an "A-bomb from A-Rod" every time Alex Rodriguez hits a home run. Mr. Sterling, an "A-bomb" to me means something much worse to me than a home run hit by an alleged steroids-user.
Cheers to ex-Yankee David Wells for getting back at an old nemesis of his, named Roger Clemens, by nicknaming him "He-lie" during a recent golfing event in Oklahoma.
Jeers to any current or former baseball player that has forgotten what the word "truth" means.
Cheers to the Beaver baseball team for making a run at a tournament berth just one year after missing post-season play.
Jeers to the tournament selection committee for leaving the Beavers out a year ago and making a 31-16 Beaver team, who has won two of the last three national championships, sweat a berth in 2009.
