With the end of the academic year just a few weeks away, the transition for members of ASOSU is nearing.

The current and the newly elected members of ASOSU met last evening in MU room 109 to conduct the 2009 ASOSU inauguration ceremony.

Present at the event were 2008-09 president and vice president Ryan Mann and Kimberly Nickerson, who started off the evening by announcing various ASOSU executive awards. This included best event of the year, which was the Break Down, Rise Up concert, and the executive staff member of the year, which was presented to Shayna Rogers.

"Congratulations to the incoming ASOSU staff. This is going to be a crazy, but good upcoming year," Mann stated in his introduction.

"This is a bittersweet moment because we're happy to see Chris and Kevin take over the reins, but this has been the best year and an amazing experience, which especially would not have been possible if not for our staff. It has been a great honor."

Chris Van Drimmelen and Kevin Schock, the newly inaugurated ASOSU president and vice president, pledged their oaths of office, as administered by Mann. The new ASOSU speaker of the house, Paul Aljets, was also inaugurated. Aljets' inauguration is unique, as his position is a newly created one for the next year.

Van Drimmelen spoke briefly, where he encouraged his fellow OSU students to bring up any complaints as well as any compliments that they may have while he is in office.

"As the associated students of the student body, we will build something that we'll all be proud of," Van Drimmelen said.

Schock also approached to podium to speak and he acknowledged the obstacles, such as a poor economy and an apathetic student body, which he anticipates the ASOSU staff to be facing.

"It is a time for the student body to stand together," Schock added. "We will not put up or shut up until we are heard."

Van Drimmelen, Schock and Aljets also took turns with administering the oath of office to the newly elected executive and legislative staff members, as well as the House of Representatives.

The newly inaugurated ASOSU members will officially begin their work in office starting on June 16.
