Finally some good weather! Hello spring time! You notice so many more smiles around campus when the sun is out.

I'll tell you what put a smile on my face this week: a carnival held at West Dining Hall on Wednesday night. It was so out of the blue. It wouldn't have been a surprise if I had bothered reading all the signs that had been put up weeks before, but I think it's better when you don't expect it. When you don't expect it, you have no expectations and are always pleased with the outcome.

And man was I pleased with this carnival. Props to the organizers and staff because this event was amazing! It had games, balloons and a whole lot of free food. They had gone into so much detail with sheriffs, clowns and even a dunk tank. I don't know where the money to fund this comes from, but it made a lot of people's days. I've never seen so many smiles in one place, but I guess that's the effect a carnival will have on a person.

In a way, this one was probably better because the games and food didn't come with the normal costly prices you would find at a real carnival. Free games and food will make anyone happy. I mean, it probably wasn't the clown making people smile, because she was sitting down eating as much candy as I was.

But this is what I love about college: there's always something going on, and when you come from another country, these events are always an experience. We don't have these kinds of events in Australia. We are too lazy to bother. However, America knows how to do it and do it well, and what I've noticed is most American events and festivals include a lot of food.

If I look at an advertisement poster for something, what gets my attendance are the words "free food." I love America because 90 percent of posters include those words. It's one of the things I love most about America: the food here is amazing. Going out is great because the portion sizes are huge. Sure, it's a leading cause in this country's obesity problem, but I love it. Anyone who knows me well knows about my appetite.

You either eat to live, or live to eat. I'm defiantly the second one. I love food, all foods. Actually, I don't like blue cheese, and I admire anyone whose taste buds can handle that stuff, but basically I eat a lot. I actually ran out of money on my dining hall card this term. How'd I run out? I ask myself the same question. I guess I'm a footballer on a gymnast's budget!
