After interviewing 2,000 Oregon State alums, students, prospective students and people around the state of Oregon, OSU's University Advancement had a better understanding of what people perceive Oregon State as. Where most people have a good idea of what OSU represents there are still a few images of the old OSU.
That is where the idea for Powered By Orange came from. A new campaign dedicated to the positive impact that Oregon State has on the Portland area and beyond, Powered By Orange is open for anyone to join.
Powered By Orange launched its campaign in March of this year at the Pape Grand Slam baseball tournament by running messages across the big screen promoting Powered By Orange and holding a booth outside where staff handed out freebies and videotaped alumni and OSU supporters.
The video messages are featured on the Powered By Orange website, poweredbyorange.com, along with interactive maps, free downloads, a blog and information on Oregon State's impact regionally and globally.
The website includes links to social networking sites that Powered By Orange uses to reach out to people who are involved in the OSU community. Powered By Orange can be found on Flickr, LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
The Powered By Orange campaign is the first public development of an OSU integrated marketing communications plan that the university developed over the past year. The plan is intended to build appreciation of OSU among business community leaders, prospective students and their families and others whose decisions impact the university.
The innovative efforts Powered By Orange is making are what is catching people's attention, like the Benny on the Move photo gallery on Flickr. The idea is to download a version of Benny the Beaver or pick up a cutout from a participating business and take him to work, vacation or your favorite spot and snap a photo. The photos can then be uploaded on Flickr and tagged with the keyword "bennyonthemove" to join the photo gallery. Flipping through the images already downloaded shows Benny has visited Italy, the Sears Tower and watched the Beaver's baseball team take on the Duck's at PGE Park.
