All-Region Rowers
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Oregon State rowers Ame Hicks, Katie Humm and Jenny Kossowsky were among the winners of the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) 2009 Division I all-region award as announced last weekend. The awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions, organized into first- and second-team selections.
Hicks, a senior from 100 Mile House, B.C., and Kossowsky, a junior from Leipzig, Germany, each received first team all-region recognition while Humm, a junior from Lake Oswego, Ore., earned second team honors. The trio recently helped the Beavers' Varsity 8+ to a third place finish at the Pac-10 Championships earning a medal finish for the first time since 2000.
Three all-region members are the most awards for OSU rowers since 2001 when Abby Roos (first team), Cassie Bouska (second team), Joy Jordan (third team) and Jennelle Johnson (third team) were honored.

Utes to Watch
In addition to the Oregon State baseball team reaching the NCAA Tournament, two former Beavers qualified as well with the Utah Utes.
Pitchers Brian Budrow and Bryn Card were both members of Oregon State's back-to-back national championship teams.
Card, from Klamath Falls, Ore., sports a 5-2 record and 5.67 ERA for the Utes and was Utah's Sunday starter for much of the 2009 season.
A Glendale, Ariz. native, Budrow saw very little action in Corvallis. Upon arriving in Salt Lake City, Budrow found his way into the Utes rotation. Now the ace of the staff, Budrow is 5-5 with a 5.32 ERA.
Despite a 26-29 record, the Utes won the Mountain West Conference Tournament to secure an automatic bid in the field of 64 teams. Utah meets Cal State Fullerton in the opening round of the Fullerton Regional on Friday at 7 p.m.
