Softball leads Pac-10

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Oregon State softball team tied for the most Pac-10 All-Academic selections with seven, as announced Tuesday by Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen.

The Beavers were led by junior Kelly Dyer, who earned her second-consecutive first-team accolades. The human development and family sciences major already earned second-team CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 honors, which was announced earlier this month.

Six others were named All-Academic Honorable Mention: senior Paige Lowe, who earned her third-career honor; juniors Tarah Black, Dani Chisholm and Alana Ford, who each racked up her second academic accolade; and sophomores Erin Guzy and McKenna Lowe, who each tallied her first recognition.

Coach of the Year

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Oregon State head coach Emily Ford and rowers Jane Ivey and Melissa Penwell were honored when the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced several national and regional awards Tuesday.

Ford was selected as a one of the CRCA's Regional Coach of the Year winners representing the West Region. This is Ford's third time honored by the CRCA in her career, and the first time she has been honored as a head coach. In 2004, Ford was selected as the CRCA's Central Regional and National Assistant Coach of the Year.

Seniors Jane Ivey and Melissa Penwell were named as CRCA National Scholar-Athletes. Ivey carries a grade-point average of 3.84 while studying exercise and sport science, and Penwell also has a 3.84 GPA in ethnic studies. This year's awards mark the third-straight year Ivey and Penwell have received these honors.
