To most, Battle of the Bands might be just another fun event to attend on campus, but few know how it all works and how each piece of the puzzle comes together to create a success.
Attendees only see the polished, well-organized event, when behind the scenes, countless hours of labor and planning go into producing each year's Battle of the Bands.
The Corvallis community works hard and plays a large role in producing the annual event.
Battle of the Bands takes place today in the MU Quad from 4 to 11:30 p.m.
Preparations for the event started months ago.
"The MUPC group starts the preliminary planning early in the year, and it all gets set in motion come winter term when the bands start auditioning for spots in the event," said Craig Bidiman, stage manager for Battle of the Bands.
According to Rachel See, MUPC director and Battle of the Bands event coordinator, event preparation relies heavily on details and making good contacts.
Some of the vendors will include Rogue Ales - which will provide the beer garden - Cascade Sound, and Eyebeam Event Services, which will bring in lighting and stage equipment.
"This is the event that we at KBVR-TV have been training for all year," said Carl Leniger, KBVR's station manager and Battle of the Bands emcee.
"This is where we get to use all of the skills that we have gained for the show."
KBVR is streaming the concert on kbvr.com and providing all the bands with copies of their sets.
"KBVR's part in Battle of the Bands is to give a seat to the people [who] could not make it to the show," Leniger said.
In order to stay organized and on task, many of the OSU departments and outside vendors will work in crews. KBVR is one such organization.
"There is a set up crew in the morning to run cables and get the truck set up, then there is the show crew, and then there is the breakdown and cleanup crew," Leniger said.
The setup started Thursday evening when most vendors packed their trucks with important equipment.
