Ortiz a first teamer
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State catcher Ryan Ortiz has been named to the Pac-10 Conference's First Team for the second consecutive season, the league announced.
Additionally, five other Beavers were named honorable mention. They are: Adalberto Santos, Sam Gaviglio, Tyler Waldron, Jared Norris and Kevin Rhoderick.
The honor is the fourth bestowed upon Ortiz by the Pac-10 since he joined the Beavers prior to the 2007 season. Last year, he earned his first All-Pac-10 honor and was also named a Player of the Year. This year, on April 6 - after beating Cal with a game-winning hit in extra innings - he was also named Pac-10 Player of the Week.
The five honorable mention selections for the Beavers are the most since 2005.

Wrestling adds six
The Oregon State wrestling team completed its 2009-10 signing class by adding six more, announced Thursday by head coach Jim Zalesky.
Joining OSU are Jacob Lauderdale, projected to wrestle at 125 pounds, John Tuck, projected to wrestle at 165 pounds, Taylor Johnson, projected to wrestle at 184/197 pounds, Caleb Cardwell, projected to wrestle at 174 pounds and Scott Sakaguchi, projected at 149 pounds.
Also joining the Beavers is transfer Colby Covington, who is projected at 174 pounds.

Davis' Creighton bound
Chas Davis, a volunteer assistant coach with Oregon State's women's track and cross country programs, is leaving the Beavers to accept a full-time job as head men's and women's cross country coach at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., OSU head coach Kelly Sullivan announced Thursday.
Davis spent one year as a volunteer assistant at OSU, helping the program produce cross country's best ranking in the West Region (6th) and receive votes for the national top 30 for the first time in program history. While Davis was on board freshman Casey Masterson qualified for the track and field NCAA West Regional in the 1,500-meters.
