The musical group Shwayze performs Saturday night in the Memorial Union quad during the Flat Tail Festival. The concert was halted after fighting broke out.

This year's Flat Tail Festival proved to be more than just a free night of music and dancing.

Several people were arrested for fighting, one man was taken into police custody for creating and bringing a homemade bomb to the event and front musical headliner, Shwayze, was cut short on stage after the sound system was turned off.

A packed crowd made up of OSU students and members of the Corvallis community showed up on the lawn of the MU Quad Saturday night to watch the MUPC-sponsored Flat Tail Festival.

The declared Battle of the Bands winner, Pseudoboss, kicked off the event, which began at 4 p.m., followed by Bekker, Dyno Jamz, Amadan and Lifesavas. Shwayze hit the stage at 10 p.m. as the last performer of the night.

According to Oregon State Police Sergeant Vonn Schleicher, towards the end of the concert at approximately 10:50 p.m., OSP and Corvallis police officers were patrolling the campus in the effort of monitoring over 600 people who were in attendance.

Several officers discovered a man urinating along some bushes near the site of the festival. This man was later identified as Nicholas William Dyer, 19, an undeclared OSU sophomore, originally from Portland.

While in contact with Dyer, officers also found a small homemade bomb the size of a water bottle and illegal fireworks inside the backpack that he had been carrying.

The OSP Bomb Squad was called and later stated the device to be safe.

Dyer was transported to the downtown Benton County Correctional Facility, where he was charged with the unlawful possession of a destructive device and the unlawful manufacturing of a destructive device.

The online Benton County inmate report roster confirms that Dyer was released from jail sometime on Sunday.

Around the same time of Dyer's arrest, Shwayze was cut short during one of his songs when the sound system was turned off. Shwayze was originally supposed to be finished after performing his hit song, "Buzzin," but at the request of the crowd, agreed to stay longer.

The concert was epic. Stop hating on it or we won't be able to have big name artists come to Oregon State

Friends in Portland (proud to be called Oregonians) told me that Oregon State has a bad reputation regarding student conduct. As an old Oregon Stater, that really makes me proud! Are these misbehaving people actually students? Is the campus infiltrated by non-students or those Web footed people from 40 miles south when these "concerts" take place? I live near two large universities. (Continued…)

That show was fun. If people didn't want to get crazy they should have stayed in the back of the crowd. Doesn't anyone know how concerts work? I felt this article only focused on the bad. (Continued…)
