Four recognized for work in class
Oregon State senior John Wallace was among a group of four OSU baseball players to be honored for academics

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State senior outfielder John Wallace has been named to the Pac-10 Conference's All-Academic Second Team, league commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. In addition, Ryan Ortiz, Rob Folsom and Kraig Sitton were awarded honorable mention.
Wallace, a business major, earns his second consecutive Pac-10 All-Academic award during his career at Oregon State. He played in 54 games this past season, giving him 198 appearances in four seasons with the Beavers. During his tenure, Wallace collected 88 runs batted in while playing stellar defense. A native of Reno, Nev., he finished with a fielding percentage of .991.
Ortiz, majoring in business, received his second Pac-10 All-Academic honor. Ortiz was also named All-Pac-10 first team for the second consecutive year. A native of San Diego, Calif., he started in all 54 games this season and hit a team-leading .341 with four home runs and 43 runs batted in.
Folsom, majoring in business, was earned All-Academic honorable mention for the first time in his career. Folsom, who hails from Medford, Ore., hit .283 over 40 games with 15 runs batted in this past season.
Sitton, majoring in history, received his first Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention of his career. Sitton, who hails from Carlton, Ore., made 29 appearances for the Beavers and struck out 27 batters in 20 innings pitched this season.
To be eligible for selection top the Pac-10 All-Academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and either be a starter or significant contributor.
