Living near Portland is an exciting time in the summer. It's about time to put down the books, soak up some sun and enjoy some time off.

Other than enjoying a weekend at the Saturday Market or taking a walk on the Waterfront, why not check out some excellent music coming this way. That's right, it's that time, a time for excellent music in the heat of the summer, a time that will leave your ears bleeding and your face burned. Music coming this way offers something for everyone, from the subtle listener to the hardest of metal fans, music even the pickiest of listeners will want to experience.

Of course, the Warped Tour will be back in town for its 15th year. One of the longest running tours is returning with a vengeance, offering an arrangement of big name bands crammed into one day of mind shattering tunes. Bands like Bad Religion, Black Tide, Alexisonfire, Chiodos, Less Than Jake, NOFX, Senses Fail, Underoath and many more will be blessing this year's stages. Good news! The tour will be hitting the Washington County Fairgrounds on Aug. 16, a Sunday! Plus, that will give you Saturday to hit up the store, buy your favorite band tee or album and rock them on the day of the tour.

If hardcore kids aren't your scene or you are more into hip hop, why not check out the new found "Blazed and Confused" tour on July 17. The Memorial Coliseum will be transformed into a large hot box as Stephen Marley, Slightly Stoopid and Snoop Dogg take the stage. Even Mickey Avalon will be taking part. Better get your tickets soon.

Rap and scensters not your deal? Well, prepare yourself for one of the hardest shows to ever hit the west coast: The Summer Slaughter tour. It is comprised of some of the biggest names in metal history. Accompanying the tour will be bands such as Necrophagist, Suffocation, Ensiferum, Dying Fetus, Origin, Decrepit Birth, Beneath The Massacre and more. July 2 marks the day when the Roseland will be transformed from a mediocre venue to a place of metal and mayhem. If the Summer Slaughter doesn't leave you awestruck, nothing will. Well, other than the Rockstar Mayhem Festival hitting up Seattle, that is.

If you prefer a few artists and not festivals, some big names have promised to tour this summer. AC/DC will be in Tacoma on Aug. 30. Although it won't be summer anymore, Elton John and Billy Joel will be at the Rose Garden on Nov. 10. Other classics from our childhood will be touring this summer. No Doubt will be at the White River Ampitheater on July 17, Blink-182 will return with Weezer and Taking Back Sunday on Sept. 10 at the White River Ampitheater.

This summer is one for the ages. If you like music and have money to blow from that lame summer job, then this will be your year. Be sure to clear your schedule because who knows how these concerts will be, and you don't want to be the one kid next fall who missed out on all of the action.
