At its Monday afternoon meetings, the Corvallis City Council decided to approve the building of OSU's proposed Linus Pauling Science Center, voting five to four to accept OSU's revised proposal for the building.
According to an article by The Gazette-Times, the Historic Resources Commission had earlier voted against the construction of the building, due to the fact that the original proposal did not meet historical district requirements, including use of materials, height and setback.
OSU later appealed the decision and modified its original plan for the $62.5 million project.
With the conditions set on paper, the council decided to approve the appeal and allow for the project to continue.
According to Councilor Mike Beilstein, who was in support of the appeal, the goal was to have a building that does not detract from the character of the historical district.
He added that the new proposal was an entirely different one from the one that the Historic Resources Commission had seen before.
