On May 21, the new ASOSU president and vice president, Chris Van Drimmelen and Kevin Schock were sworn into their positions for the '09-'10 school year.

Winning one of the closest elections in recent history, the two are excited and already working hard on their plans for the next school year.

"The first thing that is going to happen in the fall is an all out publicity blitz," Schock said. "I want every student who takes a class on this campus to have something in their hand telling them about ASOSU and the opportunities there are."

"We really want to get the word out this summer at START sessions to students about ASOSU, so that when people come back they will encounter a publicity blitz of: 'This is ASOSU! This is what we can do for you!'"

Van Drimmelen and Schock discussed that their initial motivation to run for ASOSU was sparked after Van Drimmelen was curious as to the ASOSU budget. Upon the realization that the document was nowhere to be found, he and Schock went to work and produced a 35-page document of which was later transformed into 20 pages and used as their platform for when they eventually ran for the positions.

"People who tend to say our campaign wasn't specific didn't visit our website," Schock, a sophomore in political science and philosophy, said.

"We kept adding to it, but had to shorten it because no one would have read it," Van Drimmelen, a junior in microbiology and education, said.

Van Drimmelen, former RHA president, and Schock, a current resident assistant in Wilson hall, have much experience through RHA and UHDS and are looking to apply those experiences into their new positions.

"Being an RA is all about developing community and one of the interesting things you get to see is how a healthy community can inspire great things and how a negative community can just completely cripple a person's ability to be readily successful," Schock said.

"Before being RHA president I had supervised a grand total of two people in my life," Van Drimmelen said. "It's given me a lot of insight into what it's like to work with and supervise a group of peers."

"So, this is taking the past experiences I have really enjoyed and bringing them to the highest office that a student can aspire to on this campus."

Judging by the photo, I'm not sure I feel comfortable with these two leading ASOSU. They look like a comedy team.
