The Oregon State women's soccer team is off to an amazing start, currently holding the second-longest winning streak in school history with victories in their last seven games.

"We're really starting to come together as a team," head coach Linus Rhode told OSUBeavers.com.

So far this season, the Beavers are 7-1 overall, and have yet to face any conference opponents. The only loss the Beavers have suffered was during the season opener Aug. 21 against the Portland State Vikings. The Beavers offense just could not find their way past Viking goalkeeper Cris Lewis, as she had nine saves on the evening.

The Beavers were led by redshirt freshman forward Chelsea Buckland, who had five attempts on the opposing goal. While the Beavers out-shot the Vikings 19-6 and controlled possession for most of the game, they were unable to score, resulting in a 1-0 loss.

The Beavers faced the UC Riverside Highlanders on Aug. 28, and earned their first victory of the season. Senior midfielder Rachel Axon was the first to put the Beavers on the board, with a penalty kick during the 28th minute.

During the second half, the Highlanders' Denise Thomas connected on a penalty kick to tie the game. Junior defender Courtney Wetzel came through for the Beavers with under three minutes to go when she connected on a 30-yard free kick, giving the Beavers not only the lead but also the win.

On Aug. 30, the Beavers traveled to Northridge, Calif. to face the Matadors. Cal State Northridge was the first on the board with a goal by Desiree Cardenas. The Beavers rallied to score three goals within an eight minute span during the second half, two of which were scored by Buckland. Sophomore goalkeeper Colleen Boyd made six saves, helping to secure the second consecutive win.

The University of Nevada Wolf Pack made their way to Paul Lorenz field, home to the Oregon State Beavers, Sept. 4. The Beavers continued their winning streak as they won by a final score of 4-0. Senior defender Red Nixon was responsible for two of the Oregon State goals.
