The city of Corvallis faced one of its most hectic weekends of the year this last Homecoming weekend.
This Halloween had its share of troubles for Corvallis police forces, but it also brought a lot of business for local bars and businesses.
With the spooky holiday falling on Homecoming weekend, a home football game and on a Saturday, Corvallis businesses were prepared for one of their busiest weekends of the year.
"We had an awesome turnout. This Halloween was our busiest night of the year so far; we had quite a diverse crowd this weekend - students, parents, kids, you name it," said Valerie Hiller, kitchen manager of Clodfelter's Pub. "It was a combination of people who were in town for Homecoming weekend, the football game and Halloween. Not to mention, since Tommy's burned down we have been seeing a lot of their customers coming in to the bar as well. We sold out breakfast two days in a row."
Hiller also said that, in anticipation of a busy weekend, Clodfelter's was well staffed and prepared for the rush of customers.
"This Halloween brought in more customers than we have had in previous years, but Halloween is always busy and we had good staff and people working," Hiller said.
Squirrels Tavern also had a successful night of business on Halloween, said manager Greg Little.
"It went great. People were out and about from the football game so we had a good crowd," Little said. "We also had a costume contest."
Little also said that Squirrels was busy but didn't seem to be more busy than past Halloweens and that they didn't have any trouble with fights.
"It was probably the usual amount of busy compared to other Halloweens. It's one of our favorite nights here at Squirrels and it's normally a pretty strong night in terms of business," Little said. "We had no fights."
For the Corvallis Police Department, OSP and Benton County Sherriff's Office, this last weekend had brought its fair share of MIPs and DUIIs. With costumed college students and game-goers walking the streets until the early hours of the morning, the police forces were fully staffed.
