Halloween by daylight: Dude, that's like, pretty queer
Thomas Dieter
Issue date: 11/3/09 Section: Forum
On Halloween, men as strung-out brides and women as Charlie Chaplin are high-fived and fist-pounded (that's when you bump fists with another person; it means you're cool).
But I smell a double standard with cheese, because on other days of the year a cross-dresser isn't welcome in a store parking lot, let alone in the workplace, or worse, in our schools.
I want to speak with whoever fries up these the decisions as soon as my schedule opens up. If Adam can remind us that Bowie wore a codpiece (which either took a bit of planning to acquire, or Adam has done this before), then it seems to me that we could at least be consistent.
I have a really cool idea that could use your help, straight, acute and obtuse people. I want to build an enormous web of connections and networks that illustrates the locations at which the full spectrum of genders and sexualities intersects.
Our project will implicate all of the disciplines. Webmasters, we'll need your know-how to formulate a labyrinth of Web page connections.
Artists, what can you give me in terms of geometric shapes and hodgepodge construction? What do the colors pink, yellow and turquoise do for you?
Musicians, I think we could move forward with the bop-funk "Atari Safari" sound. Adam, how's your voice-over work?
And teachers and scientists, we need anecdotal and experiential data as soon as you're able.
As for the rest of us, we can start with the face paint and choreography.
Today's thoughts occur during a fold in time, an extra hour that never existed.
Queer History Month has come to a close, but the school year has only just begun.
