OSU named four "executive deans" on Monday to be in charge of the four new academic divisions that will provide a new organizational framework for OSU's current 11 colleges, announced in a press release Monday. The divisional change is part of OSU's Strategic Alignment and Budget Reduction Implementation Plan.
The new divisions are Arts and Science, Earth Systems Science, Health Sciences, and Business and Engineering. The Division of Arts and Science will be headed by current dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Lawrence Rodgers, and will include the Colleges of Education, Liberal Arts and Science.
The Division of Earth Systems Science will be headed by current dean of the College of Forestry, Hal Salwasser, and will include the Colleges of Agriculture Sciences, Forestry and Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences.
The Division of Health Sciences will be headed by current dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences, Tammy Bray, and will implement the Colleges of Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, and Health and Human Sciences.
Current dean of the College of Engineering, Ron Adams, will head the Division of Business and Engineering.
In their first year of service, the executive deans will work together with academic deans to create visions and goals for each division, as well as plans for modification, consolidation, elimination, creation or realignment of degree programs, departments, centers and institutes. With the exception of degree programs, decisions are aiming for implementation in July 2010. Degree program implementation will begin in September.
OSU's seven-member Advisory Council on Budget and Strategic Priorities, which was created last year to make recommendations on financial and organizational matters, recommended the divisions last spring, and OSU President Ed Ray approved them in October. All of OSU's college deans will continue to administer their colleges under the new division plan.
